Hello Mr. and Mrs. Century Village and
all our residents around the globe.
Happy Holidays to all Century Villagers
I hope that many of you are enjoying the good weather along with
the pleasure of sharing your Thanksgiving with family and friends. As always when families get together on
occasions such as this. we reflect our changing world and give thanks for any
blessings that we have received.
Our Founding Fathers, insisted that the ideas found in the First
Amendment must be included in the Constitution before the document could be
ratified and approved. The First
Amendment is the foundation stone that makes our nation great.
The First Amendment protects Freedom of Speech and Assembly. Thus, it allows those in our society that
express unpopular ideas or solutions to problems that those in power
reject. The First Amendment allows protect and encourages groups to speak
and assemble. During the Revolutionary
Period towards the end of the 18th Century a quote attributed to
Voltaire stated: "I do not agree with what you say, but I will defend to
the death your right to say it."?
Voltaire's words in the Essay on Tolerance — "Think for yourselves and let
others enjoy the privilege to do so too."
Great idea! But not for Century
Village. UCO and WPRF have chosen,
without consent by our Delegate Assembly, to shut down and prevent any person
or group to exercise their First Amendment rights of Free Speech and Assembly
in OUR CLUB HOUSE AND POOL AREAS.
How
abominably unjust this policy is.
The only conclusion I can draw from this
decision is that the current UCO administration wants to stem the avalanche of
criticism that has begun to be generated against them.
In March of 2016 Century Village will be
voting for a new President, Vice-President and Executive Board members. There is no doubt, based on the track record
of the lack of accomplishment by the
current UCO administration, that Villagers want a change. If the current administration can’t stand the
heat of criticism then they should finish up their term and get out, rather
than implementing biased rules that limit honest electioneering in Century
Village.
Is this the world we have created here in
Century Village? When a small group of
elected officials are more concerned about their positions than the rights of
Freedom of Speech and Assembly then we must demand change. What we must do is
knock them off their ponies and open the door to their stalls and let some
fresh air in.
I urge all concerned Villagers to support the
cause for an “Even Playing Field.” Open
up the club house and pool areas for campaigning. Advertise to all Associations to encourage
candidates to speak to their respective associations and finally provide a time
and venue for all candidates to meet and greet the voters in a face-to-face
question and response dialogue. We do not want to be living in the land of the
blind, where the person with one-eye is all seeing. Delegates I urge to accept
no less.
When will the voters get a chance to meet the candidates? never. UCO elections well planned ha!ha! ha!
