The availability of Guns in the Club House was discussed. The Messenger club said, or at least Ed Grossman, said, since no vote was taken, that he is for armed guards (at least one) as part of our security.
The Gun Club members said that they are allowed to show off their guns 4 times a year, in the Club House, The guns are always carried taken down and unloaded. There was no consensus of the Messenger Club attendees. For myself I am against guns in CV. I do not agree with the argument that we are all in danger and need guns for protection all the time.
Dirty tricks are starting up again. The Phyllis Richland sign at the synagogue at the Haverhill entrance was stolen. It was reportedly done by a security guard in a security truck. So I ask you who could have done that? The people that do this type of thing. This includes the posters taken down at the Associations Bulletin Board, are

There were complaints that our security force does not have phones. Does not have radios. Again if a emergency arises that need guns call 911. If the emergency arises that need Medical call 911. Basically our security have 2 jobs. To check for passes to enter the Club House and the Hasting pool. And to monitor entry into the Village. They are not cops. They are not medical alert people. They are not fire men.
I don't think we need our own Armed Police force. We are still part of the WPB.
It is more important to go the AMR contract. When called I got an "unavailable" response. What does that mean? That's like the Police responding with "sorry we are busy" or the fire department reporting "sorry all our trucks are out". If they are busy they should be able to call another ambulance company to fill in. I should not get a unavailable. Sure they might feel it is alright, you can always use the emergency vehicle that shows up first. But no, why should I take the rescue guys out of the area?
Not feeling well for quite some time, I became very ill this past Tuesday, and had to call 911. It was determined by the paramedics from the Fire Dept. that I needed to be hospitalized, and AMR was called. They were at my door within minutes, and transported me to the hospital. I was very pleased with the care as well as the response time from them. I've read complaints about them on the blog recently, but that was not my experience.
ReplyDeleteThe only complaint I have is that sometimes they are unavailable. That should not happen.
DeleteYour points are well taken Gary. It is a sad state of affairs when citizens are considering the need for armed guards. The reality is, as you stated , we can call 911 if an emergency arises. Thats true, PBSO has good response time and are very efficient in their duties. I'm sure thy would be on the spot if and when they are needed. However I would venture that the presence of visible armed guards is a great deterrent . Anyone intent on causing harm by shooting up the place would more than likely go elsewhere rather than face the prospect of shooting it out. Therein lies the rub.Saying we don't need armed guards because we have never needed them is like saying we should get rid of the watchdog or alarm system because we have never been robbed.
ReplyDeleteThere are other ways to handle this. One idea is why not deputize some of the Gun holders right here is the Village to respond if called, in an emergency. That way, we have faster response and no visible armed guards. And still it will be a known thing.
DeleteI don't know. There has to be a good deal of training not just in use but in behavior mod, when used, etc. These guards are not necessarily top of the line law enforcement people so......lots of gray area here.
ReplyDeleteWhy is anyone interested in what Neil Moore has to say? He doesn't live here anymore and when he did he was a renter. Can't he find something else to pontificate about at his present location?
ReplyDeleteFirst, Neil is an intelligent man and he has very interesting things to say, and second, he will be back. What do you care why people are or are not interested in what Neil or anyone else has to say, and is it any of your business anyway? Are you of the impression that renters are inferior and not entitled to express their thoughts or opinions?
DeleteANONYMOUS: DEC.4 6:55P.M. NEIL MOORE STILL LIVES THERE. WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR INFORMATION.
