UCO Reporter

Once again the rag is printing articles in the French language.  I thought discrimination was against the law in the U.S.  We have people from all over the world living in this village, so if we're going to have articles written in French, then we also need to print articles in Spanish, Creole, German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Italian............EVERY language that exists.....not only in the village, but in the world.  To do otherwise is discrimination.  Printing articles in ANY language other than English is also huge slap in the face to all Americans, being America is our country and the country that the UCO Reporter is published in.  English is the language we speak in this country, and the Reporter should be ashamed of itself.  Maybe they need to be reported to the authorities.  This should be brought up at the upcoming Mark Friedman meeting in our clubhouse - topic DISCRIMINATION.

    There are a number of papers in Florida published in different languages. There are also a number of TV and radio stations broadcasting in different languages. Language classes are also quite popular in Century Village !

    You will find that it is YOU that is discriminating. In order for the Reporter to Write articles in any language, it first has to have someone write it in that language and have it ALSO in english. What is the problem with providing something for the very large french speaking community in our village? I say leave your discrimination at the door of your home and don't try to spread it around.

    The point here is not discrimination against anyone. It is the fact that of all the various groups here, why is it only French that is printed. While I enjoy trying to figure out words from what I remember from high school French (basically the only part of the RAG that I find useful), why not other communities - there is a large Polish segment, a Russian segment, a Jewish community that can use perhaps both Yiddish and/or Hebrew, and then what about the Latino community/ Why choose one? And if one is looking for translators and writers - I am sure they could be found quite easily. Carole is not pushing discrimination - just asking questions.

      Again I repeat. Just go to Translate on the left side bar of My Blog and you can get any Post into any language. French, Polish, Serbian, etc.

      haven't you seen all the writers just jumping up and down like Arnold Horshack yelling Eww Ewww... no? Neither have I. Fact of the matter is, IF someone writes an article, with the English translation, I am pretty sure it would be considered for publication in The Reporter. While I have not worked on the paper for some time now, I still think The UCO Reporter is the best publication in the village.

    Having a monthly bilingual (English/French) article in the Reporter from October to May contributes to the integration of the 800 French speaking residents from Quebec. As most know the knowledge of English for some Francophones is limited to what they learned in school some 50 or 60 years ago. The bilingual article will encourage them to open the Reporter, read the article, attempt to read the English translation, peruse the budget numbers and other news from the Village. Most are owners and wish to integrate the life of CV. Mingling with English speaking residents in activities like billards, petanque etc. helps, the English language classes help, and the bilingual articles in the UCO Reporter also helps.     Bob, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but don't forget that so am I. Maybe you don't like the democratic process or the right to express one's own thoughts. I do. I implied and further stated that we should not discriminate, therefore, write articles for EVERY culture if we are going to write articles in languages other than English, and you don't agree. Yet you say that I'M discriminating??? That gave me a big laugh. Maybe it's you that has a problem with the English language. I'll lend you a dictionary if you need to look up the meaning of the word 'discriminate'.

    Herein lies the problem, in order for someone to make a comment like about the process, they need to understand it, furthermore, If you think everyone in the world needs to be represented in the paper, you would need a VERY large paper each month somewhere on the line of a sunday NY Times... not feasible or cost effective. That is, unless you want the the a large increase in your monthly fees... I don't. The only time there is french in the paper is during "season". You can't tolerate it for a few months a year? Shame.

    BOB _. THE UCO PAPER COULD EASILY PRINT DIFFERENT LANGUAGES BUT NOT AT THE SAME TIME. They do not need extra space to do this.

    Due to my opinion, regarding this subject, is why my "Services" to the paper was "terminated" Born & raised in Montreal, many moons ago, exposed to the prejudice that existed and still does to this day, to the English Speaking community, who incidentally were responsible for the financial success of that city and since it has now become apparent their English speaking "Tourists" are on the decline ( not only from the US but the other 9 provinces as well) due to their prejudice...If any one of you chose to spend the summer months in a community, similiar to ours ( if one does exist) you would not be AFFORDED the same civilities ...Once you cross the border from NY State into the Province of Quebec,
    unless you have a "GPS" your on your own! The local authorities response is
    Je comprend pas or Je parle pas anglais ( I don't understand or don't speak English....further more all of our social clubs within our village are open to all..unlike theirs, limited to those that :"Hail from Quebec" Even Parisiennes (those that speak a perfect French ( unlike the bastardized version the Quebecer's speak)are not welcomed...Shame on the Reporter & their Co Editor's..actually it was one, the other? we all know is a sweet gentle individual, who would not hurt a fly. Ps It is a well known fact, many of the so called "Founding Father's" of English descent have left both the City & Province....Quebec attempted to succeed from the rest of Canada, however, there were a few logical individuals who realized they would become "A Third world" province.!!!!!
