Passing of Olga's Brother

We are sad to relate to you the passing of Olga Wolkenstein's older brother. He passed on Friday 11/29. Olga please accept our heartfelt condolences. I am sure that I am speaking for all the Posters on the blog.
God Bless
Gary

Here is a little more on the life of Guido Caponigro

My brother Guido Caponigro will be sorely missed. He kept his family and friends mesmerized when he related stories of the family in East Harlem and of our parents in Italy. We called him the Italian Mark Twain.

In the nineteen eighties he and a friend co-wrote a script about an Afro-American becoming president of the United States. Unfortunately, the script never got off the ground, but guess what? he was a visionary - we got the real thing - OBAMA.

He played small parts on TV in the fifties when TV dramas were live but he made his real living as a shoe salesman for Bonwit Teller and Saks fifth Avenue.

He used to relate stories about his customers who were the rich and famous; Sophia Loren, John Kennedy Jr., Pat Nixon to name a few.

One of my favorites was when he was planning to take a leave of absence and spend six months in Italy. He and Sophia Loren played a little game and conjured up a tale about going to Italy to make a movie. The problem was when he returned his co-workers wanted to know when the movie was coming out. He told them it was only being shown in Italy and if they wanted to see it they would have to go there - lucky for him, they didn't.

This was my mischievous brother Guido.

May he rest in Peace.

  5. Olga, the stories that make you laugh are the best ones to tell. They will keep your brother fresh in your mind and ease the pain of loss and be sure he is watching you now from his new home, always the caring brother. Our hearts are with you and here should you need us. - Esther and Gerry
