Not to Worry

When silencing delegates becomes routine, and the terror messages of "call the sheriff, call 911..." becomes a common play, I took the initiative and wrote a letter to Sheriff Bradshaw On July 14, 2014.

I was surprised at the Sheriff's quick reaction. He called me on the phone and we had a long discussion. The Sheriff  was very concerned about the details and referred me to one of his captains.

A few days later I received a call from this captain and after a long conversation and talking about several scenarios, I was very satisfied and relaxed.

I am not going to reveal the outcome of these two conversations. I want to keep David Israel in the dark. But I can tell those who are being silenced, do not worry...

I attached the letter the was sent to the Sheriff.

Dear Sheriff Bradshaw,

Re: Presence of Sheriff deputies in Century Village meetings.

Since the election of David Israel as the president of UCO in Century Village of West Palm Beach, he has taken steps to crash any democratic opposition to his regime.

During his reign he has already cancel the 2 term limits that his predecessors kept for 24 years since UCO inception. He is now on his third term.

He controls our TV station our newspaper, makes it difficult to use our clubhouse for the group that opposes him.

David Israel has conducted closed meetings, releasing documents when he pleases (our by-laws permits open books to our residents) and by this, eliminating the democratic rights of the members of UCO.

Without pointing out all his defaults which he is being sued for millions of dollars in the civil court on some of it, one of his greatest defaults is silencing delegates while addressing the Assembly.

Our Delegate assembly is the Century Village Senate or the Board Of Directors. On every agenda under "Good of the Order" (a.k.a. good & welfare), any delegate can bring up any subject that might be of interest to this assembly. These meetings have been going on for 25 years with no police presence.

If this delegate says something that David Israel does not like (either criticizing his decisions, pointing out defaults, wrong doing and more), he shuts them up by banging his gavel, interfering the delegate speech, raising his voice and saying "you are out of order, sit down".

So it happens that some delegates do not agree and keep on talking while David Israel keep banging the gavel and does not let him speak. They are within the by-laws of UCO that govern these meetings.

Now, how are your deputies, who just started "guarding" these meetings, going to react? Does the delegate breaking any law? Are the deputies familiar with "Roberts Rules" that are the bible of conducting such meetings? The delegates are recognized by UCO by-laws and he/she has the podium and the microphone.

Is the freedom of speech a thing of the past in Century Village? This is still America!!!

The presence of Sheriff deputies in our democratic assembly/senate/board of directors has sent a shock wave in our associations and the ripples go even further. Many look at it as David Israel's "private army", which is paid with our money (allowing him $500 at the time without any approval).

Using the police as his personal protection has gone too far. This is a senior community, with many VA of US wars. Most of the delegate using wheelchairs, walkers, canes or just being chronically sick, so what is David Israel scared of?

A delegation group from Century Village would appreciate a meeting with you to further discuss the matter

Sincerely,

Dan Gladstone, Delegate
