So what is the final or almost final story on the UCO Wi-Fi.? We have had the best of luck. We have had an unofficial representative of the UCO Wi-Fi committee visit us. Unofficial since he is not authorized to speak for the Committee. But he did.
We asked about the next reiteration of the committee as it looks to set up a village-wide Wi-Fi. It doesn't look cheap. From what I could tell this approach is not going to save us any money.
I didn't actually learn anything new. What I heard was the same old same old. I am still confused as to the contract with CSI. The last time it cost us $350,000. Why? This time the cost is unknown. I still do not see the need for CSI. What CSI is doing is what we have a committee for.
It seems as if the committee has not started to negotiate with anybody, and in the meantime, the possible suppliers are making monied offers and then offering it again with a different number. This scares me. What do we have that makes us so inviting?
One of the basic problems is understanding what is on the table. Apparently, they are looking to break apart the wire that brings everything in. The wire that brings everything in is carrying TV, the Internet, and the phone. Dave Israel wants to be able to have subscribers order what they want, as long as it is either TV and Telephone or TV and the Internet. By the way, a good majority of users have TV only now. This is Israel's choice, not the providers! Why he is insisting on this is anybody's guess. Why he is insisting on this when it is obvious that many of the Unit Owners are on TV only.
If all of this is confusing rest assured, you are not alone.
Basically, the committee wants all unit owners to have a choice as to what they can have, and what they are paying for. I think that the choices are limited, at least until they negotiate.
Ideally, the unit owner should be able to order exactly what they want. That is, phone only, internet only, TV only, or any combination of these. So far we don't know if this is possible.
Why don't we know?
Is this negotiation under way or not? I get the feeling that there is a lot of secrecy here. I do not understand why.
