STEPPING UP

     Roberta Fromkin has been posting notices asking people to send in bios  preparatory to running for a position in UCO. I do not know what the response has been as it is confidential  until announcement time, but based on past results we could be getting a sparse response.
     I am hoping that this year will be different. For several years now under Dave's rule, people have been discouraged at the thought of running. They knew that this was a micro managed administration complete with an atmosphere of tension and threat. Most unpleasant. How many times have I heard people tell me they cannot stand going into the office. This is no way to run UCO and no way for us to have a representative government.
     Join with us this year. Step up to the plate. Send in a bio and run for Executive Board, for VP.  Anything. But run. Participate in making our Village the showcase it should be. Yes, we all have excuses, busy lives, doctors' appointments and on and on. The excuses are not hard to find and many are reasonable. I know. I was there. My life was full, busy and quite satisfactory. It is nice to sit by the pool, or play shuffleboard, or tennis, or sail or simply bike and walk the perimeter. But all these things are only there because others have taken on the responsibility of making sure that they remain so. Complaining is not the answer if we then do not do anything about it. Run. Volunteer. Participate.
       Our current situation in the Village, with rancor and divisiveness, with lax fiscal responsibility and practice, with an unelected official having too much power and sayso, cannot continue. We have a great place here, folks. Let us not cede it to the wrong people. Join the others in the administration who have persevered and kept us going. Join those of us who are going to contribute what we have learned from our own life experiences. But join! Be a part of the next and best administration.
     Open and honest, transparent and responsible, clean and aboveboard, an overarching policy of fiscal responsibility - all this and more, can be yours for the mere price of stepping up to the plate and joining the team for the future - my future, your future - our future. Join me. Share the job with me. A vote for Esther is a vote for yourself.
