TERM LIMITS – YEA OR NAY

Anita Buchanan wrote on David’s blog that we said the DELEGATES CAN’T BE TRUSTED.   We never said that but SHE DID. She put those words on David’s blog because that is what SHE believes. She thinks because the delegates did not vote her way THEY CAN’T BE TRUSTED. Therefore, we have to have another vote. WE trust the delegates. What we do not trust are the Officers who advise the delegates.  The officers, time and time again have advised the delegates to vote for an issue that has proven detrimental to the residents.

Case in point – on the advice of the Officers at the time, we had a chance to buy the clubhouse. The delegates voted it down and as a result each resident is now paying approximately $60 per month to rent the clubhouse. (And we pay all the expenses as well)  We had a chance to buy the golf course. We didn’t.  We were advised to sign a millennium agreement which we all know is a total disgrace.  We were advised to pave the roads all at once when the engineers said we could wait until we had   put enough money into the reserve account.  Look how that turned out.

We are supposed to trust the recommendations the Officers make, but we cannot. They are infallible. They make mistakes.  We have to rely on our own good judgment. Moreover, we don’t ALWAYS. We voted for them, and we feel they must know what they are doing. HOWEVER, THEY DON’T.

The officers whom we vote for do not have a crystal ball. They do not know how the consequences of their /actions are going to affect the future of the village. Therefore, we have to give ourselves the opportunity to bring new blood to the village.

We do that by HAVING TERM LIMITS FOR EVERYONE.

The delegates have already voted for the issue of keeping Term Limits.  By bringing it to the delegates again they are saying to you, YOUR VOTE DOES NOT MATTER. By bringing it back they are disrespecting you. They are telling you that you are not smart enough to make an intelligent choice.  Well, I think you ARE smart enough. I think you did make an intelligent choice the first time, and you should not allow anyone to take that choice away from you.

  1. Anita is one of the constant Dave worshippers on his blog so it is no surprise that she was the one to write that piece. What is frustrating is that of course, one cannot respond to that because we are all blocked unless we sign(ed) on to Dave's fan club. While the world is turning to term limits, here in CV we are being asked to turn back the clock and allow a no term limit ruling. Why? Does one get rewarded for making grievous errors, ones that are big enough to overcome the positive aspects of a term in office? Do we reelect one who refuses to this day to answer questions that prove to be uncomfortable to confront and be truthful about? And all blather aside, it is a human trait to go along with the status quo - it is just that much easier. That is why we have so many crooks in political office around the country. People are often just giving in to inertia. That is why so many do not vote, even in a Presidential race. It is much better to offer fresh choices and fresh eyes, to bring fresh blood to a situation, not the same old tired blood and eyes, the same old answers or non answers. And as for why people do not run for office here - there are many reasons, from health to a wish for a quiet life now in retirement to a life busy with other things and finally, a desire to not be reviled by one's opponents. Are all delegates rated genius level? No, but neither are the officer in those particular offices that are now under term limits. People make mistakes, people are led, and sometimes people lead. Dave, why can you not be a delegate and stand up with new and fresh ideas from the perspective of a delegate with experience as President of UCO? Why must it only be as the president? Give it a rest and you can always run again later on. Or here's an idea - simply volunteer your expertise without being in an executive position. There are many people in the Village who do that already.
again, I will say that I like much of what Dave has done but there are also many things that I do not. There is nothing personal here, just questions that need answers.

Olga, as far as getting recognition and participants and readers for this blog, why can we not post flyers on building bulletin boards? Why can we not stand outside the Clubhouse and hand out flyers? How much would it cost to take an ad in the Advocate or even the UCO paper or the Condo news letter? Just a thought.

  2. Thanks Esther,

You said it so much better than I did.

I did put a Ad in the advocate for the next issue and the Reporter has agreed to print my letter to the Editor advising of the New Blog. ( They claim they did not have the room to put it in last month.)
I will be handing out more flyers at the next delegate meeting.
